Youth Program

Mission: 

The Mission of the Indian Center, Inc Youth Department is to promote and foster positivie lifestyles for the Native American Youth in the community by administrating educational services and cultural social activities.

Goals:

  • Improve graduation retention rates among Native American youth
  • Create opportunities for youth to be leaders in the community
  • Empower youth to become productive citizens in the community
  • Promote positive youth development
  • Support youth in healthy lifestyle development


The Indian Center Youth Program provides services and activities for at risk Native American youth in our community. We want Native American youth in our community to be productive citizens by being self-sufficient, preparing for college/vocational trade schools, and by being mentally and physically healthier people in our community.

The Indian Center Youth Department combats realities and strives to enhance self-sufficiency of local Native American youth by developing opportunities such as: comprehensive guidance, tutoring, study skills training, Alternative Secondary School Services, summer employment opportunities, occupational skills training, leadership development opportunities, and mentoring.

Youth Program Accomplishments 2010-2011:
 

  • Native American Youth Retreats (support from Southeast Nebraska Native American Coalition-Region V) 
  • Mahoney State Park Annual Camping Trip (support from Joint Budget Committee)
  • Native American Annual Graduation Recognition Celebration (in partnership with Indian Education/Indian Parent Advisory Committee/Lincoln Public Schools) 
  • Dr. Martin Luther King Youth Rally & Dance Presentation (in partnership with Indian Education-LPS) 
  • Summer Food Program (in partnership with Department of Health and Humman Services/USDA)
  • Summer Reading Program (with Partnership with Lincoln Public Libraries
  • Summer Day Camps (in partnership with Volunteer Partners)
  • Business Field Trips (to Native American Public Telecommunications aka NAPT/NET)
  • Museum Field Trips (to Nebraska State Historical Museum, Sheldon Art, Lincoln Children's Museum, etc)
  • NAPT Vision Make Film Festival (held at the Ross Theater)
  • NAPT Mentoring Video
